Born in a time when women were confined to impractical clothes, the little jacket came to break all the rules. “Fashion has become a joke…the designers have forgotten that there are women inside the dresses,” Coco Chanel famously said. “Most women dress for men and want to be admired. But it’s perhaps the construction of the design that has made the Chanel jacket one of women’s most cherished pieces of clothing to this day. Hand-sewn with four pockets, buttons stamped with the house symbol and a chain sewn into the silk lining, to maintain the jacket’s shape. You can’t get any better than this.

In fact, although the jacket has been reinvented trough the years its original shape and construction keep the same. “As the years pass, I expect the jacket will change. Colors will come and go; it will see new designers and adornments,” Karl Lagerfeld has said. “But in a way, I'm confident it will remain the same: dynamic yet classic, simple yet elaborate. But never outdated.”
